Customer Review: I received this book for Christmas and have already made 6-7 recipes from it. The instructions are clear and simple enough for those who aren't gourmet cooks. This is NOT a book for those who choose recipes based on photographs, but for those who have a basic idea for what they want to... more info
Customer Review: I'll just add to the raves of other readers who found this book to be a wonderful addition to their cookbooks. I must have over 150 cookbooks, and this was on my shelf for quite some time before I picked it up recently. I was amazed at the recipes, and I will turn to this book more and more in the... more info
Customer Review: I love this cookbook and I've used it at least weekly since I got it, about 10 years ago. Just tonight, I made the recipe for potato pancakes (to go with his sweet-and-sour brisket recipe from NYT). And, yes, it was a pretty simple recipe: grated potatoes and onion, eggs, matzoh meal, salt and... more info
Customer Review: I liked this book for many reasons. First I want to say that I am not familiar with any of Mark Bittman's books, so this is the first one I have read. I noticed in a lot of other reviews that he has written other books that people feel are better then this one. Without comparing this book with any... more info
Customer Review: Mark Bittman is FANTASTIC. I can enthusiastically recommend any of his books, and this one is no exception. This book has more of a "world cuisine" focus than his others, and is a great resource for someone trying to venture out into new culinary territory.
Customer Review: The book has lots of recipes -- and they look relatively easy for someone that already has cooking experience and the text is informative as well. That being said, I've had the book for a month and haven't used any of the recipes yet -- which doesn't bode well for it being admitted into the sanctum... more info
Customer Review: Okay, folks, the message here is clear and completely Beard. If you don't get it by now, starting at James' beginning may not help. The recipes are dated, yet some are so classic, we just need to be reminded how much fun tradition CAN be. However, if you don't get his theme - always use the... more info
Customer Review: As with How to Cook Everything, many of Bittman's recipes could not have been tested before publishing and seem as though they were concocted at his desk.
Customer Review: A simple, straight-forward book that might be useful for the absolute beginner. But for those even slightly beyond grilled cheese or spaghetti, go for the original, full-length version instead.
Customer Review: This is a great book that any cook will actually use. The recipes are organized as variations on a theme, inviting improvisation on the reader's part. If you cook, you'll love this book.
